DU Gets New Block, U-Special Buses to Return

Delhi University (DU) students have received a double dose of good news at the start of the new academic session. A brand-new academic block has been inaugurated to ease space constraints, and in a major win for commuters, the iconic “U-Special” bus service is set to return to the city’s roads.

These two developments address some of the most pressing needs of the student community: better infrastructure and more accessible transport.

A Boost to Campus Infrastructure

To tackle the issue of classroom shortages amid a growing student population, a new, state-of-the-art academic block has been formally opened in the North Campus.

The building is equipped with modern classrooms, seminar halls, and advanced laboratory facilities. This expansion is a significant step towards enhancing the learning environment, providing students with the necessary resources and a less crowded campus experience. The new block is expected to house several departments, easing the pressure on existing buildings.

The Return of a Lifeline: U-Special Buses Are Back!

Perhaps the most celebrated news is the revival of the Delhi Transport Corporation’s (DTC) University Special (U-Special) buses. For years, these buses were a lifeline for students, offering a safe, affordable, and reliable way to commute from various parts of the city to both North and South campuses.

The return of this dedicated service has been a long-standing demand of student unions and has been welcomed with huge enthusiasm. Key benefits include:

  • Affordability: The buses will operate at concessional student fares, reducing the daily financial burden of commuting.

  • Convenience: With routes designed to connect major student localities directly to campus, the U-Specials will save time and reduce the hassle of changing multiple modes of transport.

  • Safety: The dedicated service is considered a much safer option, particularly for female students traveling early in the morning or late in the evening.

The combination of a modern academic facility and the revival of an essential transport service marks a promising and positive start to the academic year for the entire Delhi University community.
