Delhi Heatwave Continues, IMD Predicts Relief Thursday

Delhi to Remain Under Heatwave Grip Until Wednesday, IMD Predicts Drop in Temperature From Thursday

Delhi residents must face intense heat for one more day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that the current heatwave will continue through Wednesday.

However, there is a silver lining. The IMD expects temperatures to drop starting from Thursday. As of Tuesday evening, the capital is still reeling from extreme heat. Maximum temperatures are several degrees above the seasonal average. The IMD has issued an alert for the city. It advises everyone to take precautions against heat-related illnesses.

The Forecast: One More Day of Heat, Then Relief

According to the latest IMD bulletin, temperatures in Delhi will likely stay between 42-44 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, August 27th. The hot and humid weather will maintain severe heatwave conditions across the NCR.

The much-awaited relief should arrive on Thursday, August 28th. Meteorologists say this change is due to a shift in wind patterns. Easterly winds will bring moisture and light cloud cover to the region. This will bring the maximum temperature down by 3-4 degrees. Temperatures should settle in a more comfortable range of 38-39 degrees for the rest of the week.

Health Advisory: Essential Tips to Stay Safe

Authorities and health experts urge residents to stay safe during this intense heat. Here are some key tips:

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water all day, even if you do not feel thirsty. Drinks like ORS and coconut water also help.

  • Avoid Peak Sun: Stay indoors between 12 PM and 4 PM. This is the hottest part of the day.

  • Dress Smart: Wear light, loose-fitting cotton clothes. Use hats, umbrellas, and sunglasses when you go outside.

  • Eat Light: Avoid heavy, fried, or spicy meals. These foods can increase body heat. Instead, eat fruits and vegetables with high water content, like watermelon and cucumber.

  • Check on Vulnerable People: Keep a close watch on children and the elderly. They are more at risk of heatstroke.

  • Know the Signs of Heatstroke: Look for symptoms like dizziness, headache, and nausea. If you see these signs, get medical help immediately.

Relief is just around the corner, but do not let your guard down. Please stay cool, stay hydrated, and take care until the weather breaks on Thursday.
